 The California Coastline

About the images in this gallery: all the images in this gallery were scanned  from
original photographs taken on the Central California Coastline on 8-31-97 & 9-1-97. All were
exposed on Kodak Royal Gold 35MM color print film, 100 ASA. No digital manipulations were
made on these images. All photos were taken hand-held. The enlarged images are approximately
70 KB and will display at about 900x600 pixels.

The first ten shots in this gallery were taken during an unscheduled three-hour stop at one
of the best kept secrets along the California  coastline -- Point Lobos State Park.
Located just south of Carmel and Pebble Beach, this rocky point of land has never achieved
the stature of its neighbors -- Monterey and  the Big Sur Coast. The waters of the
Pacific Ocean here display an amazing array of colors, from a deep indigo blue to an
iridescent aqua to the emerald green seen  here at China Cove. The rock formations
and native flora add to the overall beauty of this area, as do the seals, sea lions,
and other wildlife that call this point home.  Described by landscape artist Francis
McComas as "the greatest meeting of land and water in the world," Point Lobos is a must-see for
anyone planning a trip down the California Coast.  Just south of the park lies the much more
well-known Big Sur Coast, which includes Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Beach, seen here.
Just north of Point Lobos is Monterey  with its 17-mile-drive, on which these last
four shots were taken. Above is the appropriately named Seal Rock, while the photo to
the left was taken at Ghost Tree. Here we  see the instantly recognizable and frequently
photographed Lone Cypress, before closing with a final shot of Seal Rock & its inhabitants.
